Winter breaks from the UK are great because they give you something to look forward to as the end of year approaches.

This year especially, has been a strange one but it doesn’t mean we can’t look ahead to winter breaks with lots of fresh air and outdoor landscapes in mind.

Severin*s – The Alpine Retreat, is a luxury boutique ski hotel set on the outskirts of the picture-perfect, chic Alpine town of Lech – around one hour’s drive from Zurich and 90 minutes from Innsbruck.

With just nine suites, all guests have masses of space: a set of rooms with huge en-suite bathrooms, wrap-around balconies, comfy sitting rooms with open fires and state-of-the-art sound systems. The hotel has an applauded chef, a basement pool, steam rooms and saunas, a private wine cellar and the friendliest of 5* service.

Fondue by Skidoo

Severin*s guests are invited to book a skidoo to deliver them to a mountain hut where they can enjoy the best Austrian fondue on offer. Choose to cook your beef, veal or king prawns in sizzling oil or in ‘Chinese Broth’ – or indulge in a venison ‘Hunters’ fondue, or traditional cheese, wine and cherry-brandy recipe. All with salads, potatoes and the side dishes that transform simple fondue into feast.

Lech Food Festival: 4-6 December 2020

A weekend of activities during which the hotels and restaurants showcase the best produce of the area – from locally produced cheeses and traditional regional wines to modern flavoured gin. Tastings are wide ranging and arranged as complimentary for Severin*s guests – taking you on an unforgettable tour of the town and its gastronomic highlights.

Disco’ Gondolas: 4-5 December 2020

The gondolas of the Rüfikopf cable cars become disco gondolas in which internationally renowned DJs bring the atmosphere to the boil. At Rüfikopf, light artists transform the snow-capped mountains into screens on which a wide variety of motifs are projected with large projectors. In the restaurants, the mountain stations and the Kästle Museum, DJs and other artists play their entire repertoire and delight the audience on open-air stages.

The White Ring Race: 16 January 2021

A thousand skiers battle to take the trophy on a self-monitored route that starts in Lech and takes in Zurs, Zug and Oberlech. Last year the British Ski Club was involved, and Severin*s can secure a place in the race for any keen-skiing guests of all ages. Images 2020 are here.

Lech am Arlburg Music Festival: 4-18 April 2021

The Tanzcafé Arlberg Music Festival turnsski slopes into dancing slopes – the entire village is transformed into an all-encompassing dance hall. Loads of live music ranging from swing jazz and big band to pop, funk, R&B, urban brass and electro beats. Over the course of two weeks, unique musicians from all over the world come to the Arlberg to join a diverse local music scene.

 Lech ‘Wine in the Gondola’ Festival: 16 April 2021

Limited tickets are available for a festival to introduce you to some of Austria’s finest vintners – ski the mountains in the morning, and spend the afternoon tasting selected Austrian wines in the gondolas of the Auenfeldjet.
